An exclusive performance: a “French evening” with accordion virtuoso Vincent Peirani at the opening night of the 2014 Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige
Vincent Peirani’s Living Being Quintet forms the “core” of this unique concert event. Cosmopolitan, unbounded and always surprising, the music of this new formation lives up to the slogan of the festival: “New Sounds, Beautiful Views”. Vincent Peirani brings together four of the most fascinating young musicians in French jazz to develop an unorthodox sound with an eye on the future: saxophonist and bandleader Emile Parisien, bassist Julien Herne, who is equally at home in jazz, pop and hip-hop, pianist Tony Paeleman and drummer Yoann Serra.
For this evening, the Living Being Quintet is boosted by three outstanding guest musicians: musical acrobat Serena Fisseau, born in Indonesia, whose repertoire ranges from blues, gospel, jazz and rock to nursery rhymes and the pop repertoire of her South-East Asian homeland, award-winning trumpeter Airelle Besson, as well as cellist François Salque, whose “outstanding virtuosity” was praised by none other than Pierre Boulez. Salque is in demand worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician, equally at ease playing Vivaldi or Schumann as Duke Ellington or Django Reinhardt, and has recorded two successful albums with Vincent Peirani: “Est” with its folk music influences from South-Eastern Europe, and “Tanguillo” with its creative tango arrangements that straddle the boundary between elaborately composed and freely improvised music.
