Sugarstarr – a passionate & experienced DJ and music-producer in the genre of Deep/Tech-House, as well as Nu Disco. Also known as the one half of the German Duo Syke’n’Sugarstarr. Innovative thinking head of two labels, Event-Coordinator and Consultant with a huge network worldwide – all in one person.
As an DJ-Artist Sugarstarr started his career back in the earlier 90s. The time Housemusic was blowing up. Since that era he is somewhat of an enigma. Finely balanced between cool, deep and techy Housemusic-Productions, as well as absolutely rocking DJ-sets. Pushing back the boundaries on his own labels Do The Hip! and Kizz Kizz Rec., that he started to run back in 2004, whilst becoming an in- demand producer for several major projects since the late nineties. The result have been massive club- hits on labels like such as Spinnin’, Ministry Of Sound, Positiva, Defected, Universal, Subliminal, Southern Fried, Toolroom etc.
His brandnew single on Enormous Tunes, called “Hey Sunshine”, is currently smashing the Charts big way, and is already set to be Ibiza’s summer anthem of 2015. It has just reached the #1 position on Beatport, entered the Buzz-Charts and is also highly supported by Avicii, Oliver Heldens, Fedde Le Grand, EDX and many more. A classy sing-along track with that vocal that stucks in your head from the first second on.
Back to his time as the one half of Syke’n’Sugarstarr. Between 1998 and 2013 these two created massive tunes such as “Ticket 2 Ride”, “Are You Watching Me”, „Danz“ or „Like That Sound“. One of the biggest coups out of their studios was a stunning team-up with the legendary CeCe Rogers, to re- present “No Love Lost” all over again. This tune has become a worldwide anthem getting on heavy rotation on the radios and was also three times the Essential New Tune in Pete Tong’s Show.
Not to forget that Sugarstarr has also been involved in the release and production of many big club-hits such as “Like This Like That” (SESA feat. Sharon Phillips; out on Positiva Rec., UK), “So Many Times” (Gadjo ft. Alexandra Prince) or the Disco Boys’ “For You”, which recently reached Platinum- Status and cemented his reputation as a part of this premier producer-team.
Also worth to mention is Sugarstarr’s 2014 release with Goh that featured Redman & Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan) in a new way. The track called „I Used To Be“ sat well on the No. 1 position on Beatport for six (!) weeks in a row. That newly created style combined Nu Disco with Rap & Hip Hop elements and resulted in a brilliantely working track that is still played out by nearly every big DJ name in the scene.
The most appealing aspect of Sugarstarr is just how fresh he sounds. Both with his productions and his DJ’ing, which, as anyone who has seen him on the decks will know, is as diverse and experimental as his studio work. As a DJ he has been touring massively for the last 15 years, with club-gigs and festivals all over the globe. From NYC to Sydney. From Bogota to Moscow. From Miami back to Europe. The music he plays out can easily be described as Funky-Housemusic-With-Vocals-And-Soul, focussed to rock the audience with his groovy sets that end up in a never ending party. And that’s exactly what the world needs right now.
