There is an exciting resurgence of conscious, organic music in Jamaica as industry experts and observers agree that Protoje is playing an important role in what is becoming known as the Revival. Not only has he been endorsed by the legendary Bob Andy, one of the premier songwriters in Reggae's rich history; also, noted local journalist, Mel Cooke, qualified the artist's impact with the headline, "...Protoje speaks for generation next."
Leading the militant band, Indiggnation, this powerful songwriter and philosophical thinker articulates the righteous anger of an emerging generation. Protoje reports for duty, re-establishing the standard for the decaying art of socially responsible, mentally stimulating lyricism.
Protoje has toured extensively since 2010 gaining recognition every step of the way and admiration for his disciplined approach to his musical career.
Of his debut album, The Seven Year Itch, David Rodigan declared in an interview: "I'm particularly impressed with the album... which I think is very refreshing." Meanwhile, Reggaeville.com declared it the #3 album of the year 2011.
His song RASTA LOVE featuring Ky-Mani Marley gained popularity around the world, as well as DREAD, JA and NO LIPSTICK. RASTA LOVE which featured Ky-Mani Marley was a major hit all over the world and has garnered close to 8 Million views on youtube. This song as well as the other releases have all appeared on iTunes Charts all over the world.
Protoje was voted as Song Writer of 2011 by the prestigious German based Riddim Magazine and it's readers voted him as Best New Comer of 2011.
In January, 2013, Protoje had his album artwork being the cover of the prestigious Reggaeville yearly magazine issue in which he was the featured Artiste while the equally prestigious German Riddim Magazine featured the 8 Year Affair as the album of their January issue and Kingston Be Wise as the Song of the said Issue. He was also privileged to gain the cover of the November Publication of Riddim Magazine.
Now that the proverbial itch has been scratched, Protoje has embarked on an affair. His second album is called The 8 Year Affair has been released since February 12th, 2013 and Singles released so far from the album are 'Who Dem A Program,' Around the World, Not a Marijuana Song and Kingston Be Wise.  The album has charted on several Itunes reggae charts since its release including the USA, UK, FRANCE, GERMANY, SPAIN, SWITZERLAND, IRELAND, FiNLAND, Luxembourg and it has received many accolades and positive reviews from magazines such as Riddim Magazine, Reggaeville and United Reggae as well as personalities such as David Rodigan.
Within a week of The 8 Year Affair release, the Billboard affiliated ‘Next Big Sound" chart listed Protoje at #4. According to the official website, ‘Next Big Sound’ measures “the fastest accelerating artists during the past week, across all major social music sites, statistically predicted to achieve future success.”
Protoje’s sophomore effort was listed at #5 on the Billboard Reggae Chart after the first week of release. By this measure of success, The 8 Year Affair has surpassed the impact of its predecessor, The 7 Year Itch, but this is icing on the cake for the singer who declares, “I’m just making music from my heart, not music for the charts” on the album’s final track, ‘Music From My Heart.’
Protoje started 2013 with a performance at Rebel Salute in Jamaica and continued the year touring the USA; with an outstanding performance at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in California, USA in June and performances in Europe at Summerjam, Rototom, Reggae Geel, Lowlands and other major festivals while on a 7 week Music From my Heart Tour in July and August, 2013 and a follow up 6 week Fall Tour in October/November, 2013.
In March 2014, Protoje released his first song titled WHO KNOWS ft. Chronixx from his soon to be released 3rd Album, 'Ancient Future'.
