“De-provincializing Vienna’s Art scene - Where Are You From?”

Wien öffnet sich als Kunst- und Kulturmetropole zunehmend dem globalen Diskurs über Dekolonialisierung und damit einhergehend einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit den Spuren ihrer Vergangenheit. Allerdings setzen sich nach wie vor altes und heteronormatives Denken und Handeln durch. Die ökonomische und politische Emanzipation von Normen wird noch immer zu wenig in die Praxis übersetzt.
Die Wiener Kunst- und Kulturszene - die Kulturschaffenden selbst, aber auch all jene, die im Bereich Organisation und Administration tätig sind - soll dazu gebracht werden zu erkennen und verstehen, dass ihre AkteurInnen in demographischer Hinsicht - Geschlecht, Alter, aber auch ethnische Herkunft betreffend - vielfältig sind und jede/r KünstlerIn einen vollwertigen Bestandteil der Szene darstellt.

Die Diskussionsveranstaltung soll als offene Plattform für KünstlerInnen dienen, um sich über ihre individuellen Laufbahnen und ihre Verortung in der Wiener Kunst- und Kulturwelt, sowie über damit in Verbindung stehende Möglichkeiten und Grenzen, auszutauschen.
Ziel des Formates ist, der Wiener Kunst- und Kulturszene einen notwendigen Impuls zu verleihen, sich endlich der bestehenden demographischen Vielfalt, anzunehmen.

Der Event findet im Rahmen des “Get Off Your Robot – Music, Dance, Art & Technology” Festival (2. - 4. November) statt. Hier treffen internationale DJs und MusikerInnen auf nationale KünstlerInnen, um sich mit der heimischen Kreativ-Community auszutauschen.

As an art and cultural center, Vienna increasingly engages in the global discourse on decolonization and the critical debate of its own historical traces. Nevertheless, old and heteronormative structures seem to prevail. The economic and political emancipation of norms is still not being translated into practice.

The Viennese art and cultural scene – including artists as well as art organizers and administrators – needs to understand and raise awareness that the city’s demographics (gender, age but also ethnicities) are changing, which therefore needs to be reflected in the arts industries.

The panel discussion functions as an open platform for artists to talk about their individual careers and their place in the Viennese art and cultural hub. It should as well give space to discuss subjective perspectives, limitations within the industries but also possible opportunities. This format aims to set a positive impulse for the local art scene to change and give ways to include the many.
