Diwali is popularly known as the festival of lights. For most Indians, Diwali is the most important festival of the year and is celebrated with families performing traditional activities together in their homes.

Hindus celebrate the return of Sri Ram after 14 years of Vanvas (banishment). To welcome his return, candles were lit in rows of 20. Lord Mahavira, the last of the Jain Tirthankaras, attained Nirvana or Moksha on this day, so it is a holy day for the Jainism too. For Sikhs, Diwali is particularly important because it celebrates the release from prison of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind Ji, (hence also called "Bandi Chorr Devas"), and 52 other princes from the Gwalior Fort in 1619.

The festival stands for a multicultural union and leaves an example how different religions can celebrate a festival together. Although the above mentioned events didnt happen on the same day, the community has decided to celebrate these events on the same day which is determined by the positions of the stars. There should be more days like this worldwide! Actually this day should be happening 365 times/year so in future we can all concentrate on our main religion - to be human.

For this occasion the BollyCraze team has decided to give Vienna an example of indian multicultural understanding! We invite people of all nations to celebrate this very beautiful festival together with us. Bring your friends no matter if black or white, brown or yellow, navy blue or neon purple(does this exist?!).
